CHDI, Inc. is the successor to the Cure Huntington's Disease Initiative, a program originally established by the Hereditary Disease Foundation (HDF) to accelerate the search for a cure to HD.
In 2004, this program was spun-off from HDF and re-branded as CHDI, Inc. to more accurately reflect its mandate and funding as a private foundation, and to facilitate collaborative interactions with the broader biopharmaceutical sector. CHDI, Inc. established its operations in Los Angeles in 2005.
- Exclusive Focus on Huntington Disease
We are exclusively focused on finding therapies for HD.
We will consider experiments, results and collaborations in other diseases if they are germane to HD.
- Integrated Drug Discovery & Development Effort
CHDI, Inc., together with High Q and HP Therapeutics Foundation constitute a comprehensive drug discovery and development effort ranging from basic research through large-scale clinical studies.
- Translational Research
CHDI, Inc. is pursuing a biotech paradigm and is the translational arm responsible for all activities from lead generation to IND enabling studies. Our industrial approach to applied research utilizes state-of-the-art methodologies and conforms to contemporary standards of scientific rigor.
- Non-profit
CHDI, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is exclusively funded by private donors and other HD foundations. Our primary driver is not financial, but rather to identify HD treatments as quickly as possible.
- Out-sourced "Virtual" Model
CHDI, Inc. is supported by a high performance team of drug discovery professionals from the pharma and biotech sectors.
Our group represents all of the critical drug discovery disciplines including: medicinal chemistry, quantitative biology, pre-clinical sciences, and informatics. CHDI, Inc. does not currently have its own wet-lab facilities. All of our experimental efforts are coordinated through collaborations with industrial and academic partners.
- Portfolio
CHDI, Inc. manages a broad and diversified portfolio of parallel drug discovery and development campaigns.
We consider all treatment modalities, including small molecules, recombinant proteins and antibodies that have a high probability of technical success, as well as more novel approaches such as gene-based and cell-based therapies.
- Collaborative Enablers
One of CHDI, Inc.'s strategies is to lower the barriers to entry into HD research by providing needed resources to HD research collaborators.
These resources include: domain knowledge, funding, reagents, and the ability to evaluate candidate compounds in in vivo efficacy models.
